Found this in the archive and it made me proud again, so here you are:

Elizabeth packed her lunch today. She was pretty excited and requested something specific which Teresa made and she ate at school.

She made a point to tell me that she was the only kid that packed today.

A discussion about packed lunch turned into a history lesson that turned into an explanation of why people in one of the wealthiest countries in the world could possibly go hungry.

'People like us.' She said.

My daughter is currently raiding the pantry and stuffing everything she can into a giant box and explaining to me - over her shoulder while she makes tough calls about the things she believes we can do without - how we will take these items to the food bank and stop the hunger ourselves.

Dis mah kid, ya'll. Laundry baskets are spaceships, Panthermen are vegetarian and hunger can be addressed in an afternoon.

And, no, my advice hasnt changed. I'd still say don't do it if you're not ready to be a person they can look to in any situation for an example worth following.

But be aware that THIS is what you're missing out on.
